Life in the Long Grass - MKAL 2024 Dyer Spotlight

August 27, 2024 2 min read

At Life in the Long Grass (LITLG), every skein of yarn is a piece of nature captured in colour. Based in the beautiful countryside of Ireland, LITLG draws inspiration from the world around them, finding beauty in the most unexpected places. Whether it’s the rusty hues of metal in an old shed or the delicate colours reflected in dew drops on a spider’s web, these subtle details form the foundation of their unique colourways.

One of the things that set LITLG apart is their signature dyeing technique. Rather than simply applying colour, they approach dyeing as an art form, with a process that’s more like painting. Each variegated colourway is meticulously crafted, with careful consideration given to the placement of light and shade, and the harmony of the colours. The result? Yarns that are true works of art, ready to be transformed into your next masterpiece!

A typical day in the LITLG studio is a blend of hard work and good vibes. With a team of seven, the studio is a hive of activity, where concentration and creativity are balanced with cake breaks and friendly chats. It’s a place where the passion for dyeing comes to life, and every skein is made with care and love.

When it comes to styling shawls, LITLG’s founder Caroline knows the importance of staying cosy during the chilly Irish winters. Her go-to method is to wrap a shawl around herself two or three times, then adjust the front to showcase the pattern or colourway. Whether it’s for a family walk by the sea or just staying warm indoors, LITLG’s shawls are as practical as they are beautiful.

Get ready to embrace the wild beauty of Ireland with LITLG’s MKAL kits! Whether you take a chance on their stunning mystery kit or one of the other beautiful options, you can't go wrong.
